Fellowship Groups at St. Peter's
Last summer we had three cookouts in our beautiful church yard. Given their wild success, we're bringing them back. Join us!
St. Peter's Church provides many opportunities for people to get together and enjoy each other's company. Our various fellowship groups are a great way to get to know fellow parishioners and to discover the many facets of St. Peter's congregational personality. Whether you have been a member at St. Peter's for decades or you have never been to church in your life, we invite you to try out one or several of our groups. You are sure to find, given the breadth of St. Peter’s interests, a welcoming group to match your own.

TNT is an informal gathering of those in their Twenties 'n' Thirties or thereabouts who worship at St. Peter’s. We gather for fellowship and fun; it’s a great opportunity to get to know some others. Bring a friend and join us.
St. Peter's Parents of Infants and Toddlers is a supportive group of parents of young children. The group meets periodically throughout the year for fun events like picnics or simply group play and conversation.
As a welcoming church, St. Peter's is blessed to have gay and lesbian parishioners in every aspect of our life together. The LGBT Fellowship is a gathering of folks who share a similar life journey and friends to share in conversation and community.
An energetic group of retired parishioners who meet monthly on a Wednesday for lunch and discussion. Often the meeting is accompanied by a presentation from authors, leaders in the arts, and other people of interest. All ages are welcome to attend, and friends are always welcome.
Journey to Adulthood
If you are in grades 7-12, you are invited to participate in the Journey to Adulthood program. This program gives you the chance to wrestle with some of life’s concerns such as: self (who am I?), society (what kind of world do I live in, how do I navigate it and how do I serve?), sexuality (how do I live in this new body?) and spirituality (how do I have a relationship with God and why should I bother?). While the program has a teaching/conversation component, it also has a service and a fun component too. In the past few years our group has sung carols at a nursing home, cared for animals at the PAWS shelter, traveled to Guatemala to work at the Canterbury School and filled our pastoral care freezer with delicious meals for the sick and the homebound. And they have had a lot of fun; going to New York to participate in the overnight NightWatch program at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, to a Phillies game and to the Bishop’s Bash to name just a few. Led by the dynamic team of Greg Duffy, Mike Zullo, Kat Salvaterra Dunne and Katie LaChance-Duffy, the youth group currently has about 15 active members and always has room for more. Eat, Pray, Laugh
Start your day with Morning Prayer followed by conversation about life and faith, coffee and pastries. All are welcome to participate. Tuesdays at 7:45 am in the parlor of 313 Pine Street.
Grief is an experience each of us will have. And, while often surprising, grief is normal, and faith does not deny grief or the pain of death and loss, but rather helps it become part of life. Led by clergy and professionals such as social workers and nurses, this group meets once or twice a year for several weeks at a time to explore grief and faith in a safe and supportive environment.

This Christian Life
Many of us wrestle with questions of faith- where is God in our lives, how are we aware of God's presence, what about those times God seems to be distant or absent? This small group meets monthly to talk together about our experience with God and life, to pray together and encourage each other on the road of faith, and to honor each others' stories. We begin the last Wednesday of the month at 6:45 with prayer, then talk with each other, ending with the brief ancient service of Compline at 8pm. Feel free to bring a brown bag supper. Brownies and beverages will be provided.

Volunteers are needed to help prune seasonal plants, remove ivy, plant annuals, rake leaves, and general upkeep of the garden and grounds. The churchyard which surrounds St. Peter’s Church at 3rd and Pine Streets is a green oasis in the Society Hill neighborhood and is enjoyed by the entire community for its beautiful scenery and its history. The tranquil churchyard is the burial site for many notable Philadelphians, including painter Charles Willson Peale and war hero Stephen Decatur. No experience is necessary—our gardening group is a welcoming bunch! The group meets from March through November, generally once a month on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons.

St. Peter’s Book Group meets on the first Tuesday of each month in a member’s home to discuss a book, movie or occasionally a play.
Once a month, this group gets together in a member's home for knitting, crocheting, mending, etc., or just for conversation and refreshments. Beginners welcome. Free instruction!
Seeking Jesus Within
Contemplative prayer is an ancient practice involving sitting comfortably and quietly, focusing on breathing and/or a word or phrase designed to quiet our thoughts and allow us to experience God’s presence within us, closer than breathing, thinking or consciousness itself. This method of prayer has been described as both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. It is a way of seeking unity with God. According to Thomas Keating, "This understanding of the unity of the human family is central to Christianity. Our spiritual journey, especially contemplative prayer, together with its practices for daily life, are processes of becoming aware of just how profound that unity is with God, ourselves, other people, other living beings, the earth, and all creation." (The Transformation of Suffering) Give yourself 45 minutes one or two times per week for silent prayer. No prior experience with meditation or prayer is needed; guidance is provided. Sessions on Wednesdays, 7 am and 6 pm.
