Absalom Jones Service

February 9 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Historic African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas, Christ Church, and St. Peter’s Church will continue their long-standing history and tradition of jointly celebrating the life and ministry of Blessed Absalom Jones (over twenty years). These three churches have a direct connection to Blessed Absalom’s life and will celebrate with a combined service at 10 a.m. Sunday, February 9, at St. Thomas at 6361 Lancaster Ave, Philadelphia.

Our new Presiding Bishop, the Most Reverend Sean Rowe, will be joining us this year for the celebration. We encourage parishioners to attend St. Thomas’s service either in-person or virtually. You can view the livestream from St. Thomas online here.

If you need a ride to the church, or if you have an extra seat in your car, please contact Parish Administrator Kate Randall at [email protected] and she will arrange carpools.

Absalom Jones was the first black priest ordained in the Episcopal Church in the United States. Jones was born into slavery but went on to fight for his freedom and the freedom of many others. He attended St. Peter’s when he was enslaved (his enslaver was a member) and he went on to found St. Thomas.
